Rosacea, or couperose, is a chronic relapsing inflammatory condition of the facial skin, often presenting with burning, diffuse redness, visible capillaries and, in more active forms, papulo-pustular lesions. It has a major aesthetic and psychological impact and can be difficult to diagnose, as it may mimic other facial dermatoses.
In some patients, rosacea is associated with underlying gastrointestinal or hormonal disorders that require specific evaluation.
Prevention starts with lifestyle: avoiding very spicy or high-calorie foods, limiting alcohol and very hot drinks, reducing exposure to direct heat sources (saunas, fireplaces, stoves) and applying appropriate sunscreen every day.
