Skin laxity is the loss of firmness and elasticity of the skin, most visible on the face, jawline, neck and décolleté. It is not only age-related: weight fluctuations, strict dieting, excessive sun and UVA exposure, smoking, lack of physical activity and an unbalanced diet all accelerate tissue sagging.
Over time, cell turnover slows down and the production of collagen and elastin decreases. The skin becomes thinner, less compact and starts to “slide” downward, leading to softer, less defined contours.
