The Alexandrite laser (755 nm) is one of the most widely used technologies for medical laser hair removal thanks to its strong affinity for melanin. At MAVIT Clinic, we use the Candela GentleLase platform, a state-of-the-art Alexandrite laser with integrated epidermal cooling, designed to increase comfort and safety while allowing the use of higher fluences for more effective results.
The 755 nm beam is absorbed by melanin in the hair shaft and follicle, converted into thermal energy and directed to the hair follicle, which is selectively damaged according to the principle of selective photothermolysis, with maximal sparing of surrounding tissue. This wavelength is particularly suitable for dark hair on lighter skin types.
Therapeutic treatment
At MAVIT Clinic, the Alexandrite laser is mainly used for medical hair removal on legs, bikini area, underarms, back, chest, arms and, in selected indications, facial areas (with careful dermatologic and hormonal assessment). It can also be included in protocols for folliculitis and hidradenitis suppurativa and, in expert hands, for certain benign pigmented lesions and small superficial vascular lesions, following thorough dermatologic evaluation.
Before starting treatment, a dermatologic consultation is carried out to assess skin phototype, hair colour and thickness, to rule out contraindications (tanned skin, photosensitising drugs, specific conditions) and to define the number of sessions and spacing according to the area and hair growth cycle. Procedures are performed with individualised settings and continuous cooling to protect the epidermis and improve comfort. The goal is a progressive, long-lasting reduction in hair regrowth, with residual hair becoming finer and sparser, fewer irritations from waxing or shaving, and clear aesthetic and comfort benefits. Sun protection and strict respect of the intervals between sessions are essential for safe, effective outcomes.
