Stretch marks (striae): dermatologic treatment of skin scars

Stretch marks (striae) are the result of rapid or marked skin stretching, such as during puberty, pregnancy or significant weight changes. They correspond to micro-tears in the dermis: at first they appear reddish or violaceous (active phase), then evolve into whitish, slightly depressed lines (scar phase). The most commonly affected areas are the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks and breasts, often causing aesthetic discomfort

Treatment options

At MAVIT Clinic, treatment is selected according to the colour, depth and “age” of the stretch marks. The therapeutic plan may include:
•    fractional laser treatments or other light-based devices to stimulate collagen and remodel the dermis,
•    medical microneedling to trigger gradual tissue regeneration,
•    in selected cases, combined protocols with radiofrequency or biostimulant treatments.

Results are gradual: the aim is to make stretch marks less noticeable, improve skin texture and restore a more even, uniform appearance.
