Phototherapy is a medical treatment that uses devices emitting controlled ultraviolet light, mainly narrow band UVB (311–313 nm), to reproduce the beneficial effects of sunlight on the skin. Sessions are performed in a dedicated cabin, with carefully dosed and progressive exposure of the affected areas.
Narrow band UVB phototherapy is now considered a first-line option for several inflammatory skin diseases, especially psoriasis, vitiligo and atopic dermatitis, as it modulates inflammation, regulates local immune responses and helps the skin gradually return to a more normal appearance.
